The owner of this Ocean City, MD home complained of cold floors and a musty smell within the home. Upon inspection of the home's crawl space our Certified Home Comfort Specialist, Kevin Knowles, discovered that the home suffered from a moisture issue. The batted insulation had collected moisture and in doing so had grown heavy and began to fall down. The moisture had not only made the insulation grow heavy and fall down, losing it's ability to insulate the floor above, but it had also created an unpleasant odor that traveled into the home.
In order to fix the issue the Dr. Energy Saver Delmarva production team needed to eliminate the existing moisture as well as prevent more from entering into the crawl space. To achieve this they needed to encapsulize the crawl space. They cleared the crawl space of all of the existing insulation and debris. Next they leveled the floor of the crawl space out and laid down drainage matting. Then they installed a rigid foam board insulation to the walls, SilverGlo, and a thick vinyl liner, CleanSpace, on top of the drainage matting on the floor of the crawl space. Finally, they air sealed each rim joist with spray foam and installed a SaniDry dehumidifier. They even ran a proper vent for the dryer exhaust to the outside that had been previously left unfinished allowing all of the hot air and debris from the dryer to directly blow into the crawl space. With all of these great products in place this Ocean City, MD crawl space will now stay dry and be well insulated, alleviating the homeowner's comfort issues, as well as being a more energy efficient home!
