The Truth about Vented Crawl Spaces

There are two factors that determine the temperature of your crawlspace: the temperature of the air and the temperature of the ground. Oftentimes, especially in the summer, the temperature of the ground is much cooler than the temperature of the air. Moisture forms when the warmer air mixes with the cooler air. This means you do not need a pool of water in your crawlspace for moisture to be present.

Crawl space encapsulation with a vapor barrier prevents moisture

The moisture in this crawlspace is starting to weigh down the insulation and duct work. The key to preventing damage to the underside of your home is to remove the moisture. A dehumidifier alone will not prevent all the possible damage from moisture. The best way to truly prevent moisture damage is to encapsulate your crawlspace. Crawlspace encapsulation will prevent moisture and water from reaching your home.

Dr. Energy Saver uses the patented CleanSpace® vapor barrier to reduce the amount of moisture trapped in the crawlspace. The crawl space vapor barrier is used to seal off the bottom of the house from the ground. This stops a good deal of the rising cold air from mixing with the warmer trapped air reducing the amount of moisture and condensation. The vapor barrier will also prevent dust from entering your home through the crawlspace.

The best crawl space sump pump system

We also recommend our patented sump pump, SmartSump®, which efficiently pumps out any water that is under the vapor barrier. The SmartSump is a fully enclosed sump pump that we service annually to ensure long life for the pump. The pump’s drainage system is placed under your grass so there is no danger or unsightly views. Here's an example of a sump pump drain in Harrington, DE.

Crawl space dehumidifiers that really work!

Our powerful dehumidifier will remove the moisture trapped in your crawl space. The SaniDry® is a reservoir-free dehumidifier that pumps out the water it collects. We can easily combine the dehumidifier’s drainage with the sump pump's drainage.

To fully finish the crawl space encapsulation process, we recommend the Turtl® crawl space entry system. The Turtl entrance will stop water and moisture from entering your crawl space from the exterior. Added bonus to the Turtl crawl space entrance – it’s safe and prevents other unwanted things like critters and bugs from entering.
