Changing your Scenery - the Affordable Way

There are some people in the world that need a change in their life – something drastic. I admit I am one of these people, but I usually resort to changing my hair because it is less expensive than other options. But many others feel their need for change would be satisfied by moving, giving them a literal change of scenery. The only downfall with this is it may be harder to afford to move at this time.

Are you looking to pack up and move? You may consider holding off and going for a more affordable remodel instead. With the previous payroll tax cut not being extended, there are predictions of another recession headed our way. I know that most people fear the word recession, but there are ways to overcome this fear. I know I am a little less afraid now that I know all recession means is most people will spend less money to make up for the money they used to get when we had the tax break.

So now some people may have a conundrum. They feel the need to move but don’t have the required income needed to move. One solution to the, “Got to get a new address,” itch: remodel instead.

Remodeling is more cost effective, and if you do it right, can offer you the same amount of change you would get from a move. And while you’re at it you can make your home more comfortable, healthier and energy efficient by having Dr. Energy Saver complete a home checkup for FREE.

For example, say you are going to knock a wall out to open up the space in a room. Dr. Energy Saver will inspect any ductwork that may be exposed, offer ways to re-route the ducts if it is needed, and then properly seal and insulate the ductwork before it is enclosed in the walls. Many times ducts are overlooked by other contractors, but Dr. Energy Saver offers the proper treatment for your ducts the first time.

Another way to remodel is to repaint a room. But you may have noticed that room is not as comfortable as the rest of your rooms. We can re-insulate the walls before you paint with injection foam. A small incision is made in the wall to allow for the injection foam tube to enter. Once the foam is installed we seal the hole. We make sure we spackle and sand the opening so well that you can start painting the room as soon as you’re ready.

This heater is too large for this home. Dr. Energy Saver's certified inspectors will calculate the proper sized heater for your home, which will help reduce energy usage and make your home more comfortable.

While our certified inspectors are there, they will give your HVAC system a once over. Many times the heater installed while the home is being built are too big. Builders do this to ensure the system is not too small and it also saves them time. Our inspectors will let you know if your heater is properly sized. How can you tell if your heater is too big? The easiest test for you is to listen to how the heater runs.

Heaters should never stop running. Once they are on, they should stay on to properly regulate the temperature of your home.

I know what you’re thinking, that sounds crazy, right? But you waste more energy (and sometimes more money) every time the heater turns on and off to run for only a few minutes.
