Bathroom fans are necessary to remove moisture from the bathroom when the homeowner takes a shower. Often, the fans dump this humid air into the attic. This can result in mold and wood rot.

This way, there is an insulated path for the moisture leaving the bathroom to the outside. Now the moisture will no longer feed into the attic and will prevent mold growth and wood rot.
